Ten short lessons on what you're looking at on Live and on every coin page. Read one, then go practice it with demo money.
What happens when a coin launches
On pump.fun or LetsBonk anyone can create a coin in seconds. It starts on a bonding curve: a price formula where every buy pushes the price up and every sell pushes it down. There's no order book and no one setting the price.
The bonding curve and graduation
The curve fills as people buy. On pump.fun it completes at roughly 85 SOL raised, which is about a 410 SOL market cap (around $40K at today's SOL price). When it hits 100%, the coin graduates: its liquidity moves to a real pool (PumpSwap) and it shows up on DexScreener and every terminal.
Market cap vs price
Memecoin prices are tiny numbers, so traders talk in market cap (price × supply). "Bought at 10K, sold at 40K" means the coin 4x'd. Every pump.fun coin has 1 billion tokens, so MC is the easiest way to compare.
Liquidity and price impact
Your buy moves the price. The smaller the pool, the more it moves: 2 SOL into a fresh coin can push it 20%+, so you pay more on average than the price you saw. That gap is price impact. Selling works the same way in reverse.
The dev
The wallet that created the coin usually buys some at launch. If the dev sells, that's often the end: they know more than you. "Dev holds 15%" means one wallet can dump on everyone.
Bundles and snipers
Bundlers buy in the same block the coin is created, often the dev using extra wallets to hide how much they hold. Snipers are bots that buy in the first second or two. Both often sell into the first wave of real buyers.
Holders and Top 10
How spread out is the coin? If the top 10 wallets (not counting the curve or pool) hold 40%+, a few people control the price. More holders with smaller bags is healthier.
Reading the trades tape
The Trades tab is every buy and sell as it happens. Lots of small buys from different wallets = real interest. A few big sells, or the same wallets selling repeatedly = people taking profit on you.
Fees eat small trades
Every buy and sell pays a fee plus a priority tip. On a round trip that's 2%+ before price impact. Flip a coin 20 times for tiny gains and the fees take it all.
Have an exit before you enter
The traders who survive decide before buying: "I sell half at 2x, and all of it if it drops 40%." Without a plan you hold winners to zero and losers forever.
